As well as being an exceptional Commander of the Confederate Army of the Southern States during the American civil war, Robert E Lee is one of the most celebrated generals in American history and was, primarily, a professional and eminent engineer. 

Despite his American credentials, Robert E Lee was a descendant of the, ultimate, 'man for all seasons', Sir Thomas Moore and, through him, of King Robert II of Scotland being an ancestor of the Earls of Crawford
