How does Wet2Straight work? It’s all to do with the chemical bonds in the hair. Hydrogen bonds are weak chemical bonds which determine the temporary shape of the hair. When we either straighten or curl our hair the shape is determined by the alignment of these bonds. Hydrogen bonds, unlike the stronger (di-sulphide) bonds which actually hold the hair structure together, are greatly affected by water. When the hair becomes wet the hydrogen bonds are broken down, and as the hair dries again they form into a particular structure and the shape of that structure determines the shape that the hair will be until they are, again, broken down by the addition of water. If the hair is left to dry naturally after washing the hydrogen bond structure will set up into a genetically determined shape which will dictate the shape of the hair, curly, straight etc. If we roughly dry the hair with a hairdryer (without using a brush) the hydrogen bonds will form into their natural shape – possibly making the hair wavy or curly. If we then straighten the hair with a conventional hair straightener (after drying) we have to try to re-form the hydrogen bond structure into a straight shape, which is more difficult than forming it into a straight shape as the hair is being dried in the first place.

Tested by top tricologist Tony Maleedy… Top trichologist (a hair expert to you and me!) Tony Maleedy carried out a series of tests on the new Wet2Straight digital straightener to assess its straightening performance. Photographs were taken of the subject’s hair before. The results showed that in the opinions of the models, who’s hair was straightened, and the testers, who assessed the hair afterwards, the new Wet2Straight hair straightener was significantly better in most categories than the conventional hair straightener.

Is it good / ok to style wet hair? Some sources said that it is very bad. Why? As long the correct equipment is used it is perfectly safe, and indeed better, to straighten wet hair. If we use a conventional straightener on dry hair the potentially destructive heat can damage the hair fibres quite easily, but when the Wet 2 Straight is used on wet hair much of the heat is used to convert water into steam, in so doing, the quantity of destructive heat entering the hair fibres is minimised and the chance of the hair fibres being damaged is greatly reduced. How does it lock the moisture into the hair? Because the Wet 2 Straight is very good at smoothing and flattening the cuticle scales on the surface of the hair as it is being used this ‘traps’ more moisture in the hair fibres.
