There are several big advantages compared with reflecting telescopes:
1)  no other type of telescopes is as easy and intuitive to use as a refractor
2)  the  image quality of a refractor is typically better than that of a reflecting telescope of the same size or even larger. The production of a refractor is more complicated and typically much more expensive

3)  a refractor can easily be used for terrestrial observations – it works on the same principle as a good telephoto lens!

Observing with the LUNA 2:
With our LUNA 2 refractor telescope you will see countless craters and ridges on our moon. Try pointing the telescope at the “terminator“ - the dividing line between darkness and light on the moon. There the many beautiful craters appear almost three-dimensionally, you will feel as if you actually were there!

Not only the moon is a wonderful object in this telescope. The planets of our solar system reveal many small details: The rings of Saturn, the atmospheric bands of Jupiter, the crescent shape of Venus. All this can be seen in our LUNA 2 refractor!

A Nice Bonus: Our LUNA 2 is also excellently suited for watching anything that is on our own planet – distant mountains, birds, ships, you name it! An erecting lens for terrestrial use is already included!

The Focuser:
One of the most frequently neglected details on a telescope is the focuser. Many cheap telescopes are still offered with an outdated 24.5mm focuser. For these focusers there are barely any accessories available, photography is practically impossible!

Not so in our LUNA 2 refractor: The LUNA 2 has a proper 1.25” focuser. As a result you will be able to buy and use any of the large selection of visual and photographical accessories available – this will allow you to fully use this telescope’s potential under any conditions.
The focuser is the key element for photography! We offer a broad selection of adaptors for nearly every common digital or classical camera. You can use the telescope as a telephoto lens for classical photography or even for astronomical imaging.

Equatorial Mount EQ-1:
There is another big difference that sets our LUNA 2 apart from many other telescopes in this price range. It is not offered on a cheap, wobbly alt-azimuth “mount”, but on a proper equatorial mount INCLUDING AUTOMATICAL MOTOR DRIVE.
The telescope is held sturdily to avoid frustration. Two flexible cables are used for slow-motion control of the mount in both axes.
 
Automatical Motor Drive:

This motor automatically compensates for the Earth’s movement around its own axis. The motor runs at the correct speed automatically. Stars will remain centered in the telescope even at high magnifications – a big plus especially when observing the moon and the planets!

The motor is battery driven. You are independent from stationary electricity – you can take the LUNA 2 everywhere and it will work without any problems.


LED Red Dot Finder:

With an LED Red Dot finder you will find objects on the sky very easily – when you look at the sky through the LED finder you will see a red dot on the sky at the precise position the telescope is pointed at. There will be no confusion, no frustration, just go ahead and do what you set out to do for: Watch the beauties of the night-sky!

The Accessories:

A complete set of accessories is already included with our LUNA 2 refractor telescope. You have everything you will need for successful observations. The set consists of:
- 90° star diagonal for a comfortable viewing position
- 2 very good eyepieces with  – not just  cheap eyepieces
- Barlow lens for higher magnifications
- Erecting lens for terrestrial observations

Eyepieces:
Another detail in which our LUNA 2 excels: Instead of cheap Huygens or Ramsden eyepieces we have included 2 excellent Eyepieces. The eyepieces are of course 1.25”.

The big difference: Better sharpness, more comfortable and better colour correction. All in all they are simply the much better eyepieces!

The focuser has a diameter of 1.25” !!
Still many telescopes are sold with the outdated 24.5mm focuser format. You will never be able to use the telescope’s full potential with such a small focuser since nearly all manufacturers of good quality accessories have now long switched to the 1.25” format. Please note: A 1.25” focuser is the basis for astronomical photography!!

Warning for Solar Observations: Never look directly at the sun with any telescope or binocular without the proper filters! Eyepiece solar filters as common with many cheap telescopes are too dangerous to use, we strongly recommend an objective solar filter. Our recommendation: The Baader solar filter sheet.
