Recumbent Bicycle PLANS

You are bidding on PLANS to build your own Recumbent Bicycles, the Trike Bike and the Tall bike.

I built these 2 recumbent bicycles from regular type bicycles.

The BLACK Recumbent Bicycle was built from a 20" yard sale bike for $5.00.  I cut the frame and welded in an extention.  I extended the chain too.  I built the seat and handle bars.   It cost me $5.00 for steel tubing to extend the frame,  $7.00 for extra chain,  $4.00 for handle bar tubing, $3.00 for vinyl cloth seat material, $6.00 for aluminum seat back, $2.00 for paint.  I used all the original bicycle parts except the seat and handle bars.  With misc parts, screws, staples, etc., it cost me about $35.00 to build this bike.  It could have been built from a NEW 20" bike they cost only $34.00 brand new at Wal Mart.  A new recumbent bike costs $1500.00.  I have seen used recumbents sell for $800.00 on ebay.   I built this bike from a single speed bike, it would have been just as easy to build it with a multi-speed 10 speed bike.

The RED Recumbent Bicycle was built from 2 yard sale bikes that cost me $5.00 each.  I used the front half of a 20" bike and the back half of a 26" bike.  I cut the frame and welded in an extension. With misc parts, screws, staples, etc., it cost me about $37.00 to build this bike.  I could have built this bike from a new 20" which costs $34.00 at Wal Mart and a new 26" bike which costs $58.00 at Wal Mart.  A new recumbent bike costs $1500.00.  I have seen used recumbents sell for $800.00 on ebay.   I built this bike from a single speed 20" bike in the front and a multi-speed 26" bike with 10 speeds in the back.

I did not want to pay $1500.00 for a new Recumbent bicycle because I was not sure I would like it.  I built the Black Recumbent Bicycle first and my Son liked it so much I never got to ride it so I had to build another one for me.  The recumbent bike takes about 5 minutes to get use to, then it is easy to ride.  It is like setting in a chair riding a bike.  The back of the seat gives lots of leverage to push the peddles.  I can ride up a hill much easier than riding a conventional bike.  Another nice thing about this is the recumbent type seat, I never did like the conventional bicycle seat they make my bottom hurt.  The recumbent bike is low to the ground with less wind resistance which makes it much easier to ride than a regular bike.

You get PLANS to build both long recumbent bikes shown above.  Plans include all the information you need to build a complete bike.  I bought a hand held $30.00 work shop torch from Home Depot with Map Gas it gets hot enough to braze the tubing together.  You can weld the bike tubing with a wire welder and .023 wire.  You can also weld the tubing with 1/16 inch 6013 stick rods.  A heli arc welder will work too.  I built both recumbent bicycles in about 6 hours work for each bike and you probably can too.

This is not a hard project to build.  You will need a hacksaw to cut the bicycle frame and a welder or torch for reassembly.   You will need a hand held jig saw to cut the aluminum to build the seat back.  You will need an electric hand drill to drill some holes.  You also need a screw driver, staple gun, scissors, plyers, file, tools to tighten wheel axle nuts.  A file and a hand held 4" grinder too.

NOTICE.  Plans are NOT AutoCad.  Plans are NOT on CD.  Young people seem to think everything MUST be AutoCad other wise it is worthless trash.  For your information Autocad was invented about the time you were born.  Before Autocad everything was hand drawn on a drafting table.  If you are NOT happy with hand drawn PLANS then do NOT bid on this.  You must be able to read Drawings with Dimensions and use a tape measure and a pencil to draw lines on metal and cut them with a saw or drill holes will an electric drill.  If you can NOT do this do not blame me it is not my fault.  The PLANS show all the parts with dimensions with several drawings showing top views, side view, etc.  If you can not read Drawing and follow the PLANS then do NOT buy this.  There are NO Photographs I can show better details with dimensions on Drawings.  Postage cost is an estimate not an exact amount.  Postage for some people may be $2.00 and $4.00 for others.  Don't get mad if you are over charged a few cents on postage.

Recumbent Bike Construction.  I cut the 20" frame and extended it.  I built the handle bars and steering system.  The frame is painted with primer first then Red paint.  It took me about 2 hours work to do this.  Exact dimensions and instructions are on the PLANS.  This is very easy see for yourself.

Next I attached the wheels, brakes, brake cable, derailers, crank, peddles, cable and shifters.

Next I installed the seat and speedometer.  I took the bike for a short 2 mile ride then returned and moved the seat forward 1 inch.  I tilted the seat back, back about 2 notches.  I tightened the rear brake and moved the shifter levers back closer to the seat.  I took the bike for another 2 mile ride before it got dark.  The next morning I went on a 20 mile ride.  The bike rides great.  The low profile makes it have very low wind resistance.

The peddle sprockets that I use is 39 and 52 teeth.  The back sprocket that I used is 14, 17, 20, 24, 28 teeth.

TRIKE BIKE

I built the Trike Bike from 3 yard sale bikes.  I paid $16.00 for all 3 bikes.  I used the back half of a 26" bike.  I welded a piece of steel tubing to the frame to mount the seat, steering system, and peddles.   I used the peddles from the 26" bike.  I also use part of the front fork and part of the frame with the bearings.  I used 2 forks from 20" bikes and 20" wheels on the front.   I spliced the chain from all 3 bikes together to get a long chain for the trike bike.  I used the brakes, handle bar tips, hand grips, brake cables, derailer parts from the 26" bike to build this.  The only thing I had to buy new was steel tubing, the vinyl cloth, carpet foam pad and plywood to build the seat.  This  bike can be built from a single speed bike or a multi speed bike.   It cost me about $30.00 to build this bike.  The low profile makes for low wind resistance this bike is very easy to ride and it goes fast.
