You are bidding on:

One Original Bull's Head Can Opener blade.

This is an original blade from a Bull's head can opener, which has been cleaned and re-sharpened.

The blade measures approximately 2 inches by 2 inches and is just under 1/8 of an inch thick.

It is ready to be inserted into a Bull's head can opener, whether for use or for show.

I have taken a photo of a Bull's head can opener with an old blade in to show you the type of can opener the blade will fit. This can opener is NOT up for auction.

Please note: This auction is for ONE BLADE to fit a Bull's Head Can Opener.

A bit of history about vintage Bull's Head can openers:

Domestic can openers were supplied in the 1860s with cans of ‘bully beef’. ‘Bully beef’ was pickled beef. Usually this was shredded beef in a gravy (bouillon) to fill the gaps.

Known as "The Bull's Head", the design reflects the fact that beef was among the first foods to be canned. The openers were made of painted (often red) cast iron in the shape of a bull’s head, the handle finished in the form of his tail. The short, pointed blade at the top was used to pierce the lid, and the longer blade (below the bull's head) for see-sawing round the rim of the tin.

Bull’s head tin openers were produced up to and into the 1930s.
