Extremely rare and beautiful sterling silver mounted novelty scent bottle by Thomas Webb, hallmarked for 1884
This is a superb silver topped scent / perfume bottle made from iridescent and gilded blue glass in the form of an eagle's head.
The blue glass is superbly decorated with gilding as can be seen in the pictures.
The bottle is some 7 inches / 178 mm long and about 1-3/4 inches / 45 mm wide across the head.
The quality of this piece is astounding and it is in pristine condition.
It is inscribed in gilt to the underside with registration ''RD. no,. 16828''. This design was actually registered at the Patent Office Design Registry by Thomas Webb & Sons on 13th November, 1884.
The hallmarks to the edge of the top are poorly struck - lion passant, maker's mark and letter K for 1884 which is clearer.
The bottle comes in it's own fitted case - which I have had made specially for this piece.
These perfume bottles by Thomas Webb are exceptionally rare and I have seen them sell for well in excess of £7,000.
