RARE SAMPSON SMITH WETLEY CHINA GREEN WOODPECKER PLATE

This unusual and beautifully decorated plate is a delight.  It’s by Sampson Smith and was made c1930-1941 at Wetley China in Longton. 

The plate is squarish in shape and measures 9¼” at its widest point.  It is decorated in relief with Green Woodpeckers and colourful flowers and leaves.  It has embossed “handles” and a gilded border which sadly has worn away over the year.  It is stamped on the base with the entwined SS of Sampson Smith, together with “Wetley China” and “England”. 

There are no chips, cracks, crazing or restoration and this gorgeous plate is offered in excellent condition.
