A Rare Japanese 18th. Century Woodblock Print by Choki (worked late 18th. to early 19th. century) 

13 x 9 ins. (33 x 22.8 cms) Choki is one of the most celebrated and also the most enigmatic artists in ukiyoe, his dates and details of his career are still not known. A number of his designs, including this example, are signed with the "go" (art or alternative name) Shiko. The publisher's seal is that of Tsutaya Juzaburo, the celebrated publisher of the greatest artists of the 18th. century such as Sharaku and Utamaro. A number of Choki's designs signed Shiko can be found in the catalogue of Tokyo National Museum. The design shows a boy of a horse the straw sandal on which is being replaced by young man. There is a beautiful woman to the left and Mount Fuji can be seen in the background. The print dates to the latter part of the 18th.century. 

The print is very toned and faded. The paper is thinned in some areas and there is a minor repair to the top left corner. There are very few collectors, excepting the very wealthiest, who have a genuine Choki!

(Preferred) Credit card (Visa or MasterCard etc.) for full buyer protection.
This is the quickest, easiest and most convenient payment method.
We have our own card processing facilities without the need for any payment "intermediary" or "service provider".
Your card details can be sent to us in total safety using our secure server. 

Other payment methods: 
1. Internet bank transfer (UK customers). 
2. Personal cheques (known UK customers only). 
3. Bank / wire transfer (for international customers). 
4. Cash. You are welcome to visit us to collect your purchase and pay cash upon collection. If you wish to pay by this method please let us know immediately after the end of the auction so that we do not waste time and materials packing the item. 
5. Paypal. Please note that "PayPal is only a Payment Service Provider" and we recommend that all customers read and understand Paypal's terms and conditions before choosing to pay by this method. If payment is made by Paypal, we must send the item by a trackable courier postal service. The UK postage estimate we have given in this listing is only for standard postage, assuming payment is made by a method other than Paypal.

A genuine antique is, of course, genuine for all time and not just for ten days or a month and so sellers not offering such a guarantee as ours should probably be avoided. We do not sell for other dealers; we sell only our own stock.

  3.  SHIPPING - POSTAGE & PACKING

Note: it is now compulsory for us to enter a UK postage amount when listing items on eBay. Although we can estimate the postage cost, the exact amount will not be known until the item is packed and weighed; we charge you the actual postage cost - we do not charge you an estimated amount. 

Postage - we do not inflate our postage costs; we quote to you what the Post Office quotes to us.
The estimate for UK postage that we have given for this item is for the standard postal service. Where payment is made by Paypal, we are obliged to send the item by a trackable courier service.
We prefer the Royal Mail for inland and overseas shipping, and can use any of their express or guaranteed services if required. Other courier services can also be used and estimates of shipping costs can be quoted at any time. 

Packing Materials: For many items we make no charge for packing materials. Although we re-use as much packing material as possible, we may make a nominal charge for new materials used. Any such charge will be at or below our cost price.

Handling & Packing: The packing of fragile items takes time and care yet we make no handling charge for this service. 

Whenever possible, multiple purchases are packed together to minimise shipping costs.

   4. INSURANCE

• This is optional and is charged at 2% of the total cost with no minimum charge.
  
  

• The insurance cost is automatically added to the total amount due unless we are advised that insurance is not required.

• We cannot offer insurance for items sent overseas by surface mail.
