Item Details:  An exceptionally rare opportunity to purchase a Roll Top Desk by the famous makers Globe Wernicke. Crafted from solid Oak this is possibly the heaviest Roll Top I have encountered, it was built to last and it has certainly stood the test of time as it is in excellent condition. The tambour front works smoothly and encloses a fitted interior with a work surface that has an unusual cantilever action; I guess this allows you to fold long-term projects away under the desk when you need a surface for something else. It is panelled on all sides so can be freestanding if you wish rather than placed against a wall. I think the piece is a single unit and does not separate into pieces.

The desk comes from the home of the ex Vicar of Playford Suffolk and has been sold as he is now downsizing. There is no worm damage, the oak has good colour and it is completely solid. The faults are; two later holes in the second work surface that folds up from under the desk. Some of the dividers of the pigeonholes are loose. Desk supplied with key and it works but the lock is not completely secure and can be jiggled open. All minor faults that do little to detract from a great desk.

In the last picture it is displayed with several other pieces I have listed this week. Check out my other items!
