ANTIQUE 17TH CENTURY ARITA EWER


Antique 17th century circa 1650-1680 Japanese Arita porcelain ewer, of oval form with a waisted neck and loop handles, painted in underglaze-blue with panels of peonies reserved on karakusa, the neck is with stylized peonies. The top of the handle is pierced with a hole with another small hole on the surface, the holes were made prior to the firing process of the porcelain at the request of European merchants importing Japanese porcelain for European markets since many of these types of ewer were mounted in Europe with Silver or pewter lids. MEASUREMENTS: Height: 21.5 cm (8 1/2 inches), width with handles: 12.5 cm (4 7/8 in). CONDITION: No chips, cracks, or repairs, nice age patina and good signs of usage. PLEASE DO NOT BID UNLESS YOU INTEND TO COMPLETE THE TRANSACTION.
