Rangefinder Baldix, f/3.5 Baltar, all working, exc cond

Balda Rangefinder Baldix with f/3.5 75mm coated Baltar in synchronised Prontor-SVS speeded 1 second to 1/300th plus B and delayed action. The camera has a built in uncoupled rangefinder and film winding is automatic.

The lens is clean. The shutter has been serviced and operates on all speeds. Delayed action and double exposure lock function correctly.

As the photographs show, the overall condition is very clean. There are no dents or scrapes on the bodywork, body covering is fresh and clean, as are the chrome and enamel trim.

This is a late model of the Baldix with EVS settings and new speed range of  1/4, 1/8, 1/15 etc. Under the exposure value system (EVS), predetermined exposure remains constant. When the shutter speed is changed, the aperture automatically compensates so that exposure remains constant. The same automatic compensation occurs when the aperture is changed. 

The rangefinder is operated by a small knob on the top plate. The knob is turned until the double images in the square rangefinder spot is in the centre of the viewfinder merge, and the distance to the subject, which is indicated by an arrow on the knob, is transferred to the lens. It is a simple and precise operation that ensures pin sharp focus.

Film wind is automatic. The film is wound to No.1 in the red window and thereafter the winding knob locks automatically for each frame and there is no need to refer to the window again, although it is prudent to do so from time to time.

The Baldix is extremely light and compact, measuring approximately 5.25 x 4 x 1.5 inches ( 135 x 102 x 37mm) and has a rather chunky appearance and a solid feel.
