DISC ONE - VOLCANOES

We travel to the city of Banos, in Ecuador, which lies in the shadows of the deadly volcano, Tungurahua, 'The Black Giant'. The avalanche is one of the most frightening and destructive forces in nature, with well over one million rumbling down the planet's mountains every year. But revolutionary new technologies promise to keep victims alive long enough to be rescued from frozen tombs. Across the globe, scientists have stepped up the pace in avalanche research, to unravel the complex dynamics of violent snow.

DISC THREE - PLANET STORM

Imagine a single storm consuming the entire earth, or an interplanetary storm devouring the whole solar system. Apocalyptic weather reigns on other planets in the solar system, but until now has never been experienced by man, Planet Storm explores Mars' raging dust storms, Jupiter's Great Red Spot and the extraordinary atmosphere of Io. We brave these titanic tempests, witness their awesome size and monstrous power and see them recreated back on earth.
