Champion Boats Adios/Marguerite Win Peoria 1911 Ad
"The first motorboat champion of the Illinois River, Adios, was also the first speeder ever built by Mr. Truitt, of the present firm of Stillman & Truitt, of Chillicothe, Ill. She was built at the time when 18 miles an hour was considered a remarkable speed. The photograph reproduced herewith shows Adios as she ran in her first race, which took place on a very rough day. Her number shows that she was the forty-fourth boat to start in the first handicap race ever held by the now famous Illinois Valley Yacht Club, of Peoria, Ill. Adios was a champion in 1907, and was one of the most talked about boats of that season. The present champion of the Illinois River is Margueritte, and her picture is here published to afford an opportunity of comparing her with the original holder of the championship. Marguerite was designed and built by Stillman & Truitt, at Chillcothe, for D.W. Voorhees, of Peoria, and her purpose was for the use of her owner and his party in making quick trips between Peoria and the Duck Island shooting grounds, a distance of 33 1/2 miles by Government survey. It is stated that she has carried a party of five from Peoria to the Duck Island clubhouse in 59 minutes. Marguerite is undoubtedly one of the best and fastest "duckshooting" boats in the country."
