A DIVERSITY OF CREATURES by RUDYARD KIPLING 1917 MacMillan hardcover, this version of the book does not have the swastika symbol with the head of Ganesha (elephants head) in gold stamp on the front cover - suggesting this is a later versions of the 1st edition. The book appears to be still a first edition with no reference to other printings. Some bumping and minor fraying to the spine with just a little fading - inside a very clean copy. Cloth on covers starting to lift in places, suggesting little water damage - but no other evidence. One of Kipling's later works This volume is a mixed collection of fourteen stories and fourteen poems. It includes, "The first book appearance of the long tale of the future, "As Easy as A.B.C." (the sequel to "With the Night Mail") first published in Family Magazine in 1912. It also collects "In the Same Boat -1911," a tale "of psychic horrors which becomes rationalized fantasy," and "Swept and Garnished - 1915," Kipling's grimmest supernatural fiction. |
