Leonardo LPG System.
What you get in this listing? A LPG Leonardo Lambda Loop control ECU, LPG change over switch and gas level indication, stepper motor. Complete self contained wiring loom....plus all the support you would ever need from us for self fitting.
Will this fit my car? Suitable for all fuel injected engines that are LPG converted except the later ones fitted with sequential LPG injection gas systems.
Essentail for or Non CAT Cars too Even if your car does not or is too early to have Lambda sensors as standard it is still best to fit a Lambda loop system, explained below, and we supply a new Lambda sensor for this. Then you can expect much improved fuel economy and more usable power from all RPM ranges with out wasting LPG.
This listing is an economy version of our Leonardo Lambda Loop system, assembled without the cost of a Lambda sensor. This allows you to tie into your existing equipment.
What is lambda loop? Simply, it fine tunes your LPG system so that fuel is not wasted on engine over-run or cruise driving. Normally by checking your throttle position against the mixture richness value read by the lambda probe and correcting the fuelling by simply driving a stepper motor restriction device fitted in the supply pipe between the vaporizor and the mixer. The chances are, you will already have a crude manual device in the place that the intellegent lambda driven one would be installed.
Setting up once fitted Please note that this system needs to be setup via a computer once installed. This can be done by bringing the car to us or on your own laptop with the software and connecting lead if required. Please see our other listings or if not listed please phone on 01603 891209 or mail us at info@rpiv8.com
How it Works For you The electronic ECU that controls the LPG system is very basic because there are no injectors to control, in fact the most complex process going on inside the LPG ECU is the Lambda loop. This works in just the same way as on the Petrol ECU, controlling fuelling amounts.
The ECU is linked to the throttle potentiometer (throttle sensor) so that it is aware of when you want more from the engine, (toe down), or are just cruising. On your petrol ECU the adjustment is made by altering the injector pulse timing, however, this is not possible on the LPG draw-through system, because the engine is drawing LPG vapour with relation to the amount of air going through its venturi mixer. So between the mixer and the vaporiser, the ECU has a stepper motor which it can control to alter the amount of LPG vapour which can pass through the LPG pipe. The stepper motor is an electronic equivalent of an adjustable valve, so the ECU can partially block the LPG vapour pipe when cruising to give better fuel economy, but also move out of the way to allow the engine to have more fuel when you need to accelerate.
This Kit includes
- LPG activation and level switch. The level indication is compatable with many existing tank systems but not all without some upgrade.
- Quick install Wiring harness Pack 1.
- Stepper motor to replace inline adjuster present in delivery line between LPG Vaporizer and Mixer.
- Leonardo ECU that computes (cruise or load driving) from throttle position & Lambda feedback to provide ultimate economy with all driving variants.
- Quick Install Wiring Harness pack 2.
We have listed this unit without a Lambda sensor to save on cost, which in turn saves you money. The unit will wire into your original Lambda sensor. However if at present you do not have a Lambda sensor in your exhaust we do list these seperately in our shop.
Not suited to all Rover engines - only pre sequential injection. As used by RPi Engineering on our bespoke Rover V8 LPG conversions on all Fuel Injected vehicles up to the Motronic (Thor) Fuel Injection system (ie. normally up to the years 1999 - 2000)
If in doubt whether your vehicle is Motronic (Thor) please e-mail us with your vehicle details (Year, engine size etc.)
Instructions and RPi Online or telephone support is always included without additional charge.
We also supply LPG Conversion systems, active mixers for 4 barrel carburettor engines, Prakto LPG Tanks, A&R ignition amps and much more for all Rover V8 and Cherokee systems. Frequently Asked Questions Once LPG converted will my car start on LPG? Does the LPG switch have a gauge on it?
