Royal Violet Aubrieta

 

Spring blooming plants with a spreading habit and masses of flowers in deep-blue, violet. Does very well on dry banks, walls and the rock garden. Plants are 4 to 6 inches tall when in bloom and spread out to be 10-20 inches wide. Does best in light shade in the south and full sun in the north. Zones (4)5-8. In zone 4 give them a light, dry winter mulch. Very large deep-blue flowers on trailing plants, a nice selection.

 

Surface sow seeds, light needed for best germination, use 75F, germination is spread out over many weeks. Sealing the pots up in a plastic bag helps to keep the humidity high until the seeds germinate.
