A HIGH QUALITY GEORGE VI LAMP BOX

This rare King George VI lamp box replica is from the second generation of British lamp boxes first introduced in 1935 towards the end of the reign of King George V when pleasing design, quality and craftsmanship was still as important as the usability of end product. Slightly wider, and with a bigger slot than the previous it reflected the increasing demand and size of mail items of the period. It is now rare to see these boxes in use, those that are have preservation orders on them.

The box has a front opening door and a solid brass PO style key operated lock. Can be mounted on a pole, post or wall.

In the UK care should be taken to avoid accidental public use.

Dimensions H = 51cm. W = 26cm. D =36cm. Weight approx 7kg. Composite construction from a cast iron mould.

Slot size 15cm x 4cm PO box style lock with 2 keys.

AN ORIGINAL CAST IRON BOX OF THIS TYPE IN PERFECT CONDITION WOULD NOW COST IN EXCESS OF £800 and also be very expensive to transport as an original weighs approx 42kg. This fibreglass replica is exact in every detail. It has all the looks of cast iron but weighs far less, and so is much cheaper to post. Further advantages, it will not rust, rot or ever need painting and requires far less expense to erect. There is also no concern for buyer regarding past history.

This box also comes complete with a replication collection & time plate. Like the modern day versions this box can easily be mounted on a pole post or wall.

The front opening door comes complete with robust PO style solid brass lock & two keys.

Please note: As with original examples it cannot accept A4 envelopes without bending them in half.
