ROYAL DOULTON PLATTER DOROTHY VERNON AT HADDON HALL HISTORIC ENGLAND D.5940 AUSTRALIA

This large rectangular Royal Doulton plate is from the "HISTORIC ENGLAND" series. It has the Royal Doulton stamp on the base and the pattern number D.5940.

The plate has a gold edged scalloped border and a colourful scene on the front entitled "HADDON HALL".

Back-stamped with the appropriate Royal Doulton Hallmarks with the green stamp "ROYAL DOULTON ENGLAND", and an additional gold lion and crown stamp with a tree and landscape, and “Dorothy Vernon at Haddon Hall.” Also back-stamped “Historic England D.5940 Reg’d in Australia.”

Royal Doulton began to register designs in Australia in 1938.

Measuring 23cms x 18.5cms (9 ins x 7¼ ins), this lovely plate has no cracks, crazing or restoration, but is worn and tarnished on the scalloped edge and has a scratch on the front surface. This in no way detracts from the charm of this very old platter.
