For Sale Rover P4 75 1952. This is a 100% French car. Left Hand Drive. Sold new in France via the "Franco-Britannic Automobiles" dealer in Paris, the car has spent nearly all its life in France. French registration documents. Black with Blue interior. I have owned this car since 1992. I bought it from the son of the first owner who was a Parisian living in the 16th arrondisement of Paris. The car was in original condition but very tired. In 1994, after a first mechanical overhaul, I was able to get it through its French MOT (controle Technique) and register it under my name. As I was then living in Paris, I was able to retain the original parisian registration number which dates back to 1952. This car is extremely rare both in France and in the UK.The chassis number confirms that it is a LHD export model built in May 1952. This was confirmed by the BMI Heritage Certificate which I obtained several years ago. This car is also extremely rare in having been fitted with a large sliding metal sunroof. This sunroof was fitted by the French coachbuilder Paul Née in Paris (Levallois) at the request of the first owner. No other Rover P4 is known to have been fitted with this sunroof. The production of Rover P4 started in 1950 with the first 75 Cyclops. In 1952, the front grille was changed to a more traditional design. My car was therefore one of the first ones with the updated grille. It has a 4 speed gearbox with column change. This is specific to very early P4 production as the gearchange was moved to the floor in 1954. The engine is the early 2.2 straight six with twin SU carbs. The engine was changed by John Wearing (P4 specialist in Manchester) around 2000. He also fixed the minor bodywork issues (the bottoms of all 4 wigs were rusted). Doors, boot, and bonnet are in aluminium. The car was fully repainted in 2005, with new carpets and headlining. The wood was repolished. New tyres were also fitted (new Michelin X 185/15). The SU carbs wer rebuilt in 2006 by Burlen Fuel Systems. The car is now in excellent condition and drives well. Only the seats need and the inside door panels need work. The president of the Rover P4 Driver's Guild values the car at £7000. The car is kept in an warm and dry underground carpark in London. I brought it over from France with me in 2007. I have decided to set the reserve price at £4000 to encourage british bidders to deal with the inconvenience of having to register the car with the DVLA. Alternatively, if you have a holiday house in France, drive it and keep it there. Then you can keep it "French" and transferring the French documents into your name will be more straightforward ! I am selling the car as I am moving homes in London and I soon won't have a parking space for it. Contact me through ebay for any inspections before the auction deadline. Payment via paypal. |
