MUSIC DVDs: Pease note that many music DVDs are NTSC encoded (not PAL). Most European TVs/monitors can now accept an NTSC signal but you may need to check before purchasing. REGION 2 DVDs: What is region coding? This was Imposed by the film studios due to the staggered theatrical release of movies worldwide and to protect exclusive markets, region coding was designed as a method of ensuring discs would be playable only in certain geographical locations. - Region 1: The US, US territories, Canada
- Region 2: Europe, Japan, Middle East, Egypt, South Africa, Greenland
- Region 3: Taiwan, Korea, the Philippines, Indonesia, Hong Kong
- Region 4: Mexico, South America, Central America, Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Caribbean
- Region 5: Russia (former USSR), Eastern Europe, India, most of Africa, North Korea, Mongolia
- Region 6: China
European law demands that any DVD player bought within the EU (prior to any modification) will have Region 2 set as the default region. Any Region 2 disc available from us should therefore be compatible with your player. All Region 2 discs (excluding those designed solely for the Japanese market) use the PAL broadcast standard. European Buyers : Unless you have bought a multi-region DVD player you should only purchase DVDs that are Region 2 or Region 0. International buyers : please ensure that you have the means of playing Region 2 / PAL DVDs. We will not refund purchases due to incompatibility with your equipment. What is Region 0? Also known as 'Region All' or 'Region Free', Region 0 discs are compatible with any standard DVD player as they are specifically enabled for all geographical areas. However, Region 0 discs are sometimes encoded in NTSC (the American broadcast standard) rather than the usual European PAL standard which will require a NTSC compatible TV in order to ensure colour playback. In such a case, we will endeavour to clearly label this in the item description. PAL / NTSC Most PC monitors are easily able to display PAL or NTSC output, but if you use a 'TV-Out' port on your graphics card to pass the signal to a TV set you'll need an NTSC-compatible TV for stable colour playback of NTSC discs. How do I watch DVDs on my PS2/PS3? You should have no difficulties viewing Region 2 discs with your PS2/3. Like DVD players purchased within the EU, European PS2/3 consoles are set to play Region 2 discs as default. PS2/3 players bought outside Europe will not play Region 2 DVDs. How do I watch DVDs on my Xbox? To view DVDs on your Xbox console you'll need the Microsoft DVD Movie Playback Kit. Like DVD players purchased within the EU, European Xbox consoles are set to play Region 2 discs as default. Can I watch DVDs on my PC or laptop? Since December 31, 1999, all DVD-ROM drives have been manufactured with region restrictions, known as Region Protection Control (RPC2). Like DVD players purchased within the EU, European law dictates that DVD-ROM drives available are set to play Region 2 discs as default.
