To insulate rafters, floor joists and gable(s) in lofts or attics, behind radiators, under floors, in crawl spaces, cellar ceilings, external walls (behind plasterboard) and more! Price includes VAT.
This product is the VERY LATEST technology for blocking heat GAIN or LOSS in our homes and has an absolutely superb fire rating.
Manufactured by Guardian, one of the largest and most reputable and innovative insulation technology companies in the USA - we are privileged to be selected as the SOLE DISTRIBUTOR of this insulation in the UK and to offer this superb technology to you.
SOLARGUARD will provide you with more comfort in your home whilst at the same time helping you to cut your heating bills and carbon emissions.
SPECIFICATION :
Unlike most other foil insulations it has a magnificent fire-rating because it CONTAINS NO PLASTIC.
High-performance double-sided reflective insulation consisting of a 1/4" fibreglass core, bonded to two exterior layres of 99% pure aluminium. The foil in Solarguard can reflect back 97% of radiant energy striking it! Insulation properties are equal to 80mm of mineral wool. Brilliant 'R' values - see below.
'R' values - a higher 'R' value gives a better insulation performance.
Thermal conductivity value measures the ability of a specific product type to transmit heat
'R' value defines the resistance to the flow of heat of a specific thickness of a product.
'R' value = thickness divided by thermal conductivity.
'U' values - the lower the 'U' value the better the thermal insulation
The thermal performance of a building element (for example an external wall or pitched roof) is expressed as a 'U' value.
A 'U' value measures the amount of heat that the building element will allow to pass.
A 'U' value is calculated using the 'R'-values of all the building elements.
U Values 0.489 (Down) 0.684 (Up) ) 0.631 (Horizontal at 30 degrees Farenheit)
PROPERTIES: Bird and rodent resistant. No 'itchy' fibres! Superior smoke/flame rating. Addresses all three modes of heat loss/gain - radiation, conduction and convection.
FITTING: SOLARGUARD can be cut with scissors to fit as required. A special tape is used to seal cut ends - available as 'Solarguard Foil Sealing Tape' in the 'Accessories' section of of our Energy Saving Store at £4.70 here on Ebay.
USE:
Staple it to rafters in lofts or attic rooms. Keeps room beautifully warm in winter months by preventing heat loss. As it has double-sided reflection properties, it will also keep the space comfortable on hot summer days by repelling external heat
Used in conjunction with other insulating products available in our Energy Saving Store it promotes MAXIMUM home energy efficiency.
System R Values shall be R=11.6 or greater in a Heat Flow Down configuration; R=8.3 or greater in a
Heat Flow Up configuration; R=9.0 or greater in a Heat Flow Horizontal configuration, when tested as
per ASTM C976/C1363, Air to Air, with a 30 degree Fahrenheit temperature differential.
The composite product shall have a fire hazard classification of 25 (maximum) flame spread index, and
50 (maximum) smoke developed index (FHC 25/50) when tested in accordance with ASTM E 84. Test
results are to be achieved without the use of additional support beneath the tested sample. The product
shall pass the UL1715/UBC 26-3 “Full Scale Corner Wall Fire” test and shall meet all requirements for
reflective insulations as required by the 2000 International Building Code (IBC).
Relation to U-value
The reciprocal of R-value (1/R) is known as the U-value. The higher the U-value, the better the conduction of heat.
In Europe it is customary to use U-values instead of R-values. There, U-values are defined1 by the equation:
This is not the reciprocal of the American R-value (kelvin instead of degrees Fahrenheit, meters instead of feet, etc.) To convert an American R-value into a European U-value, divide 1 by the R-value, then multiply the result by 5.682. To convert a European U-value to an American R-value, multiply by 0.176, then divide 1 by the result.
1. ISO-DP10292 draft standard and CEN-ISO 9050. In the German standard DIN 4701, this quantity is called "K".
Typical R-values
The R-value of a structure made of layers of different materials can be estimated by adding the R-values of the layers. The R-value of a layer can be estimated by multiplying its thickness in inches by the R-value per inch. These techniques don't give strictly accurate results (among other factors, a layer of air stuck on the surfaces between layers is itself an insulator), but they come close.
