A Large and impressive table clock, stunning
Rococo design and in lovely, ready to display condition. Red veneer has mellowed
with age to a lovely antique red and has a lovely figure. Ormolu mounts are
bright and clean.
The clock is a classic Louis XV shape with 'C'
scrolls forming the four corners, extending down to the feet. the top is
surmounted with a two large Rococo finial.
The large dial is enamel on copper and it is
complete with the original delicately fretted gilt brass hands and is covered by
convex bevelled glass.
French
movement is by Samuel Marti, a well renown maker, the mark is on
the movement backplate. It runs for 8 days, strikes on a sonorous coiled gong
and is in excellent, clean and running condition having been fully cleaned and
overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original.
Condition of the case is
very good. The tortoiseshell has mellowed to a beautiful colour. There is some
slight and old cracking of the veneer just above the dial, occasional marks to
the veneer and some very slight worm damage to the lower sides and the lower
rear of the case. There are no recent repairs or damage and the veneer looks
superb. The ormolu is also in excellent condition with clean and bright finish
and there are no losses. The dial is also in very good condition with no chips
or scratches. The clock displays very well as you can see below!
