valves to customers who have bought amplifiers DIRECTLY from us. If you
want to buy sockets to build DIY valve amplifiers, it is probably cheaper
to buy one of our amplifiers that is GUARANTEED TO WORK, and a guarantee
of 1 or 2 years guarantee, ! Unfortunately, since the electronic DIY business
and electronic manufacturing business is in the decline in England, retailers
of electronic components had to increase their profit margins up and up
and up and up. Electronic components are so expensive now in England, that
it is just as cheap to buy our GUARANTEED TO WORK amplifiers, with a guarantee
of 1 or 2 years guarantee. You can never be sure if your DIY amplifier
will work or hum or break down !. --------- And if are are interested in
the valves, the quality of the sound will probably be very important to

Instead of 4 small American 5670 valves,

This is a review of our GBP £750 "EL34 Triode Connection - Lim
Signature" with our big "standard transformers".

| Thank you for the delivery of the EL34 Triode connection Lim
Signature amplifier. |
Now that I have had the amplifier up and running in my system
for a couple of weeks, I can say without
doubt that the sound is substantially better than the ........
name hidden , famous "high end" valve / tube amplifier ........
MV75 A that I have had for many
years. Although the Lim Signature is 20 watt output as compared
with the 75 watt output of the
........ name hidden , famous "high end" brand ........ , I have
never needed any more power. The volume control on the EL34 is never set
above 11 o'clock |
Although I do most of my listening on vinyl, for purposes of
comparison between the amplifiers, I
connected a Sony 555ESD CD player directly to the ........ name
hidden , famous "high end" brand ........ and regulated volume from the
CD
player. |
The difference between the two amplifiers is quite startling
- the Lim signature is definitely smoother,
almost a silky sound, but with far greater detail, definition
and instrument separation particularly on
female vocals, cymbals, alto saxophone. |
Before the conrad-johnson I had ........ name hidden , famous "high
end" brand ........ pre and power amplifiers. Although I no longer have
them, I believe there is a greater improvement going from the ........
name hidden , famous "high end" brand ........
to the Lim Signature than
there was going from the ........ name hidden , famous "high end" brand
........
combination to the ........ name hidden , famous "high end" brand
........ |
I am also very impressed with the general fit and finish of the
Lim signature. It really looks as well as
sounds a top quality product. And at the price it has to be unbeatable
in the value for money stakes. |

Amplifiers are packed in 2 shaped foam,
put in a strong "export quality" cardboard box,

there are extra packing of big sheets of foam between
the 1st box and the 2nd box. |
4. We use reliable famous couriers with "tracking numbers",

changed the capacitors, and telephone me to tell me how to improve
our amplifier. |

Changing valves and fixed /
adjustable bias.
|
Our amplifiers and most "high end"
valve / tube amplifiers (that is 20 watts or more)
uses fixed / adjustable bias to
get
1. TWICE THE POWER
2. BETTER BASS SLAM
(to avoid rolling off the bass at 50 Hertz)
3. DEEPER BASS
(to avoid rolling off the bass at 50 Hertz)
4. better controlled and
better dampened bass
(applying local feedback at 50 Hertz to cathode is a bad idea, and increases
the output resistance and noise.
( do NOT apply local feedback to cathode resistor, unless you have to !)
5. faster recovery from overload,
and avoid biases changing to "Class B"
( we do NOT have a cathode capacitor that will charge up, and pushed the
amplifier into "Class B" ) |

If you switch on the amplifier for 3 hours a day, you will probably
need to change the valves in 2 or 3 years.
Probably the easiest way of doing this is for you to buy a set of spare
valves (only GBP £50 for EL34 valves), which will be selected to
be very similar to the original set of valves. If you buy spare valves
with the amplifier, all you need to do is to unplug the amplifier from
the 240 volts mains power supply, leave it overnight, unplug the old valves,
and plug in the new valves ! |
If all of this sounds too complicated,
please buy a spare set of valves when you buy the amplifier !
If you want to try other brand of valves AFTER THE 1 YEAR OR 2 YEARS
GUARANTEE PERIOD, you should ask an
electrician to change the "bias" by turning the "small blue"
variable resistor with "insulated screwdriver" or GBP £1 "insulate
trimming stick" (which is a piece of plastic stick with a tiny metal tip).
Please ask an electrician to
adjust the "small blue" variable resistor , whilst measuring the voltage
(which should be 0.35 volt for our more expensive amplifiers. Only
0.25 volt for our VR-70E amplifiers. Do NOT try to adjust for higher voltage.
0.35 volt and 0.25 volt are the optimum for reliability for "push pull"
valve / tube amplifiers. ) across the resistor attached to the BIG valve
socket.
If all of this sounds too complicated,
please buy a spare set of valves when you buy the amplifier !
Do NOT do this yourself for our
more expensive EL34 and KT88 amplifier , because you have to do this with
the amplifier switch on, and the bottom cover left off !
The electrician do NOT have to
take the bottom off the amplifier, to adjust the bias for our VR-70E and
300B "Push Pull".
If all of this sounds too complicated,
please buy a spare set of valves when you buy the amplifier ! |
