Slim and be healthy!
What is Resveratrol - why is it so effective?
Resveratrol is a powerful antioxidant that is produced by some plants to protect against environmental stresses. Perhaps the most notable producer of resverterol is the grapevine, which produces large amounts of resvertarol in the skins of grapes to protect against fungal diseases and sun damage. It is therefore no surprise that wine (in particular red wine- which is fermented with grape skins) has some of the highest levels of resveratrol out of any natural food.
Resveratrol is found in relative abundance not only in grapes and red wine, but also, not surprisingly, in raisins and purple grape juice. And it is found in peanuts, mulberries, eucalyptus trees, and the root of the Japanese knotweed (Polygonum cuspidatum), the source of most of the resveratrol sold in nutritional supplements.
The French Paradox
While it has been known for thousands of years that wine is a healthful drink (thus the old roman saying “In vino Sanitas” – in wine there is health), the scientific community started taking wines health benefits seriously after 60 Minutes reported the famous French paradox study in which people in France were less likely to die of heart attacks than Americans despite similar high fat diets. The study concluded that the relatively large amounts of red wine consumed by the French protected their hearts.
From the French paradox study numerous other studies were launched to attempt to identify compounds responsible for red wines apparent health benefits. From these studies the compound that gained by far the largest amount of interest was Resveratrol .
If you are new to the world of Resveratrol - Here are the Proven Benefits…
Slow down your aging process. – age is like a speeding train, but the benefits of Resveratrol could slow the age train down and prevent some deadly diseases. Researchers said Resveratrol can add a decade to your lifespan — a decade! The goal is to prevent and forestall many of the diseases that strike us when we reach 50, 60, 70, which foreshorten our lifespans
Extend your life. - Real caloric restriction—a 30% reduction in caloric intake, indefinitely—is the only mechanism known to extend the lifespan of laboratory animals, and it works in many lower organisms as well (it would probably work in humans too, but for some reason, we’ve never exactly embraced this means of living longer). In mammals, it reduces the incidence, or delays the onset, of various age-related diseases, such as diabetes, osteoporosis, and some cancers and neurodegenerative diseases. It can extend lifespan by up to 50% in some mammals, and by as much as 90% in certain fruit flies. Reversatrol has the effect of mimicking the gene which controls calorie resctriction, so it fools the body into thinking it’s full with up to 30% less calorie intake. So you not only have the benefits of slimming, you will live longer too!
Protect your heart.- The World Health Organisation suggests that resveratrol single-handedly reduces cardiovascular risk by 40%! Resveratrol is more effective than vitamin E, protecting against a wider range of free radicals to prevent oxidation of low-density lipoprotein (LDL). It inhibits platelet aggregation by blocking the action of thrombin and several other aggregating factors. It promotes production of nitric oxide which relaxes and dilates the arteries. It reduces blood triglyceride and cholesterol levels. In helping prevent platelet aggregation which leads to blood clots, heart attacks and strokes. Resveratrol keeps blood cells from sticking together. Canadian researchers found that nothing else they tested was active against this aspect of heart disease except Resveratrol, which inhibited not only thrombin, but a host of other stickiness-promoting factors.
Stroke Mitigation - A study of rats pre-supplemented with resveratrol for 21 days has shown that it improves the prognosis, and reduces the permanent effects of stroke.
It can improve blood flow in the brain by 30 per cent, thereby reducing the risk of stroke, according to the results of the rat study.
Researchers at the National Taiwan Normal University and the National Chia-Yi University report that rats with induced reduction of blood flow (ischemia) in the brain experienced an improved blood flow from a single dose of resveratrol
Prevent and fight cancer. - Resveratrol is the only natural product with such strong evidence to show it stops cancerous cell development at various stages: a study published in the prestigious review ‘Science’ showed that resveratrol blocks the proliferation of cancerous cells during three important stages of development. A study in which mice were given resveratrol over 18 weeks showed a reduction in skin tumours of 98%!
Resveratrol destroys cancerous cells whether or not they are either oestrogen-dependent, or have the gene, p53. An Austrian study showed that resveratrol prevented certain types of cancer from metastasising to bone. Other research has demonstrated that in some cases, it improved the results of chemotherapy. It can also block the cancer-promoting effects of a linoleic acid-rich diet. Unlike many drugs, resveratrol protects, rather than destroys, healthy cells. Its anti-cancer action is diverse, powerful and sophisticated.
Resveratrol belongs to the phytoalexin class of phytochemicals and functions as a moderate antioxidant, quenching free radical damage linked to several cancers. The compound has also demonstrated anti-inflammatory properties that help it to block reactions associated with the cancer process
Fight type 2 Diabetes - ” Future diabetes treatment may use resveratrol to target the brain” An article to be published in Dec 09 issue of “Endocrinology” states that Resveratrol activates sirtuins, a class of proteins that are thought to underlie many of the beneficial effects of calorie restriction. Previous studies in mice have provided compelling evidence that when sirtuins are activated by resveratrol, diabetes is improved. Sirtuin activators are now being tested in humans as anti-diabetic compounds.
“we assessed the metabolic consequences of delivering resveratrol directly into the brain of diabetic mice. We found that resveratrol did activate sirtuins in the brain of these mice which resulted in improving their high levels of blood sugar and insulin."
Prevent Alzheimer’s disease - Researcher Philippe Marambaud, PhD is a senior research scientist at New York's Litwin-Zucker Research centre for the Study of Alzheimer's Disease and Memory Disorders. He's also an assistant professor at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
In Marambaud's lab tests, resveratrol hampered beta-amyloid protein. That protein is a key ingredient in plaque found in the brains of people who die with Alzheimer's disease. Resveratrol didn't stop the protein's production. Instead, it encouraged beta-amyloid's breakdown.
This could also be a major breakthrough in the battle against other neuro-degenerative diseases.
Increase Sexual Health - Resveratrol is an Anti-Estrogen. There is a belief that the production of estrogen in men can also cause a decrease in the production of testosterone. Since resveratrol acts as an anti-estrogen (helps to suppress the creation of excessive estrogen) there could be many benefits to our sexual health by having less estrogen in our bodies.
More testosterone and less estrogen means increased sex drive, the ability to build muscle mass and lose fat, and a more positive state of mind.
Lose weight. - We typically only receive 40-50% of the nutrients of the foods we eat! This is due mainly to overcooking, fertilization, in-organic foods that we consume every day. The excess non-essential components in the food we eat are transformed into toxins that hide inside fat tissue for years, or even decades.
Resveratrol is rich in anti-oxidants which has the effect of reversing the build-up of these toxins. Within days of use, Resveratrol can show results in your tummy, waist, legs, and other hard to slim areas without reducing caloric intake or exercise!

Reversatrol also has the effect of mimicking the gene which controls calorie resctriction, so it fools the body into thinking it’s full with up to 30% less calorie intake.
Override an unhealthy lifestyle - The US programme 60 Minutes first looked into Resveratrol and the benefits of it in red wine close to 17 years ago. What’s even better with the recent research is that there are reports that with in the next five years a supplement should be on the market that should have no problems adding another 10 to 20 years to a human life - basically wiping out any age related diseases and making users feel younger and more alive.
It can also increase your athletic performance, is an anti viral, will increase your energy levels, and give you a better quality of life
