VERY RARE Russian orthodox icon of Antique Russian Round shape Icon: VIRGIN - EDUCATION
This Russian Orthodox icon was painted by unknown artist in end of XIX - beg. XX century .
TECHNIQUE : The wooden panel was painted with egg tempera . Icon is covered with silvered riza.
Back side is covered with replaced cloth.
CONDITION: Very good. Painting was restored.
SIZE: 3.5 " x 3.8 " (8.9 x 9.6 cm).
SUBJECT: On the icon called "Education", the Mother of God is represented with the Baby the Christ sitting on Her left hand. The right hand of the Christ is stretched upwards to a face of the Mother of God.
It is a unique icon where the face of the Mother of God is a little turned on from the Baby of the Christ, as a rule, a face will turn aside the baby. One of Virgin - Education icon , become famous across all Russia the miracles, nowadays is in the Moscow Kazan temple.
