This is a silver pair cased watch.
The outer silver repousse case measures 51 m.m.The repousse outer case has very deeply embossed work on the back of a good classical scene. with a good watchmakers paper by E.S.Wilson of 47, King street, Sheffield, it is very nice to have with a watch. All the hinges and clips work well on the cases, there is no engraving on the back of the watch cases. the watch case with the watch measures 43 m.m. and is well hallmarked London 1779. the outer case is not hallmarked and that was quite normal ( but I guarantee it as silver). the weight of the watch in the case is 109 grams a very good weight.
The dial is in very good clean condition with Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numeral divisions for the minutes. with very fine black beetle and poker hands. The glass is very high domed bull nose clean and clear.
The gilt movement has an interesting and well engraved and pierced broad cock, with very fine square pillars and a Tompion regulator. it is currently running very well and keeping better than good verge time variation of only c + 4 minutes hour. It just goes to show what a very good watchmaker Anderton was to have made this fine watch and to run so well after all these years. It runs to the full length of the chain.The movement is signed G.F.Anderton London numbered 2584. The watch has just been serviced, the watch maker Anderton is well listed in G.H.Baillie's and Brian Loomes " Watchmakers and Clock makers of the World " the watch has a very strong tick. it will come with a nice old key.
Wonderful to have a silver repousse outer case with such an interesting subject.This is a very well priced watch, in very good condition well presented. An absolute must for any serious collector or would make a wonderful present.
