BELLINGRATH GARDENS - ALABAMA

A really super commissioned piece made by Adams of Staffordshire estimated to have been made exclusively for Bellingrath Gardens, Mobile, Alabama around the 1930 period, just after the gardens opened. The superb decoration depicting the finished Grotto is to both sides of the piece. To the rim it is finished with an intricate floral border and the handle sports three black stripes in a Deco style flurry.

       

It displays brilliantly but on close examination you will see a very fine hairline about an inch long to the rim, there is a tiny nick to the top of this but fails to spoil the line of the rim. It proved to insignificant and fine for my camera to pick up. Otherwise the piece is super.

         

Displays well. It seems strange that this one travelled all the way across the pond and back. Maybe it is yet to make another passage back to Alabama, who knows?
