RARE British Army: "1937 PTN (METAL TIN) CARRYING PACK"

A RARE, unissued, unblancoed, British Army soldier's 1937 PATTERN (METAL TIN) CARRYING PACK. This carrying pack measures 9.5 x 15 x 3 inches (24cm x 38cm x 7.5cm) in size. It has a pair of built-in L-Straps, and a pad towards the base on the reverse, to prevent it digging into the soldier's lower back. It is open at the top, and has two web straps across the bottom to prevent the metal tin falling through (see last photo below). This pack is postwar dated ("M.E.Co 1955 /I\"), but is identical to others we have seen issued during WW2. It is finished with brass fittings and buckles, the same as those found on MECo made examples we have seen dated from 1944. A WW2 example of one of these (albeit made by a different manufacturer) is clearly illustrated and described on page 42 of the popular reference book "Equipment of the WWII Tommy" by David B. Gordon.
These packs would have been carried by a wide range of forces, including - the Army, Airborne Forces, Parachute Regiment, Commandos, Special Air Service, Royal Marines and the RAF Regiment.
