Description
A Stunning and Rare R & S Garrard & Co. Crown Goldsmiths
&Jewellers Chest.
I have relisted this chest due to a misunderstanding with the buyer.
This is a beautiful Victorian Jewellery or
Silver chest that would have been used to
transport Jewellery to very important clients.
What makes this one special is that it is a
R & S Garrard & Co. Chest,
The company became R&S Garrard & Co in 1835.
R & S Garrard was the Crown Jeweller of
the UK and charged with the upkeep of the
British Crown Jewels from 1843 - 2007
and has made Crowns for Kings and Queens!
The Chest is in overall good condition apart
from a few missing pieces. Originally it would
have had a brass plaque on the top with the name
of the client who the Jewels had been made for
(Perhaps even Queen Victorian herself),
This is no longer there, and the Left handle is
also missing. Some of the edging to the corner
is coming loose also and the chest has no lock.
Apart from the above, the chest is strong and
in great condition. It still has its blue cushioned
top, which at one point I believe would have been
throughout the chest to protect the Jewels.
This is a great item bursting with History
and would make the perfect research project!

A BRIEF HISTORY
for more go to www.garrard.com/heritage
Garrard & Co is a Luxury Jewellery and Silver
company founded by George Wickes in London in
1735 and soon after, he was appointed as goldsmith to the Prince of Wales.
The 19th century continued with a succession
of famous commissions for Royalty and the
aristocracy, with designs of splendour, opulence
and craftsmanship. Many commissions can be found in museums, national institutions and important private collections around the world.
Since 1843, when Queen Victoria bestowed the
honour of Crown Jeweller on the company,
Garrard has served six successive monarchs.
One of the most enduring images of Queen Victoria is of her wearing a small diamond crown
made by Garrard in 1870.
