You are bidding
on a Marconi vintage RAF military valve radio.
This receiver
was manufactured by Marconi. I always assumed it was a classic R1155 wartime
receiver
as used in the Lancaster Bomber and many other British bomber aircraft.
In fact it has the part number AD8882B. After a bit of research I have discovered
that this was a pre-production run of the R1155,
probably built around 1939/1940. As such it is probably a lot rarer than the
usual R1155
I bought this
intending it to be a restoration project but sadly I have realised I just
don't have the time, so here it is (reluctantly) on eBay.
As with many
of these receivers it has had its direction finding unit removed to make way
for a mains transformer/power supply.
I would assume therefore that it will run on standard UK 240 volt mains.
I have never powered this receiver up. It is sold as seen, with no guarantee
that it works.
Needless to say, mains powered valve receivers generate high voltages which
can be lethal.
If you don't know exactly what you are doing then you should not connect it
to the mains electricity supply!
The internal
condition is fair. It looks like a professional job has been made of the mains
power supply,
with a hefty mains transformer and nice cable tidying and installation (see
photos).
The case and
fascia have seen better days.
The dial perspex is yellowed and a little opaque.
The
tuning mechanism works fine.
The
paint on the case is flaking.
There are rusty screws and other parts on the front panel.
Mechanically it all seems sound.
Would make an
excellent restoration project for someone who has the time.
Below are a few
pictures.
