Quality English~ SHORT & MASON ~ ANEROID WALL BAROMETER

~ SHORT & MASON LONDON ~

~ Beautifully Figured Walnut Wood ~

FULLY WORKING EXCELLENT ORIGINAL CONDITION

" Instrument No. 2553 "

- English Made Aneroid Wall Barometer from January 1967 -

This is the legendary Short & Mason London-made barometer, Serial number '2553'. Bright, clean and unworn. The beautifully silvered dial remains unmarked and clean, and the glass is clear.

The solid case is designed in a six-sided hexagonal shape in solid walnut wood. The grain of the wood is placed and so constructed that it falls perfectly within the hexagonal shape without leaving an 'open' grain on any side.

The movement is of the aneroid type which is very responsive to variations in atmospheric pressure. By observing the rise and fall of the needle, it is possible to determine the likely weather 24 hours hence. The mechanism is compensated for temperature, and has a small fusee chain that ingeniously activates the needle pointer. This important feature ensures that the instrument will not 'stick', and will respond readily to small fluctuations in pressure.

The untarnished dial is of matted silver and has the graticule scale and weather legend. The lettering is beautifully formed. The bezal is of polished brass, with thick glass. The gnomon pointer needle is in red and adjusted by a knurled brass central button.

The case is 9.5" inches (24 cm) wide. The brass bezal is 6" inches diameter (15 cm). The case depth is 2.5" inches (6 cm).

A very good example of the best domestic wall barometer from 40 years ago.

Will please anyone with an enthusiasm for the weather, and an appreciation of quality English workmanship and design.
