Once they are done you send them back to us in pre-paid box supplied and in approximately 14 days your own custom Music earplugs will arrive at your doorstep. Musicians, DJs, Clubbers, Concert goers really do not want just to use any earplug, they demand the best and thats where we at ProGuard come in. We have engineered ProGuard Music to cater for their needs, each earplug is tailored to the individual client, and it will fit like a glove into every nook and cranny of your complex ear anatomy. The custom-fit earplug will fit deep into the ear canal and sit comfortably there for long periods of time without it becoming uncomfortable or feeling obtrusive, manufactured from tactile soft medical grade silicon they will require very little maintenance over their lifetime just the occasional wash in warm soapy water and a quick dry before inserting them into the ear is all that is required. The magic part of the these music earplugs is the acoustic filters we use, calibrated at various SNR levels they will allow the sound to pass through with all the same complexity as how it was originally played but at a lower volume to save your delicate ears from the rigours of loud music. Each ProGuard earplug comes to you with a choice of two pairs of filter and a filter insertion tool. All ProGuard filters are interchangeable to suit your listening environment; the lower level (Blue) designed to give adequate protection for general gigging and concert goers gives an SNR protection level of 18dB. The higher attenuation version (Green) where regular listeners are in extremely high volume environments typically DJs, Drummers and musicians in very loud bands, this filter will give an SNR rating of 23dB. It might not seem that 5dB will make that much difference but you should be aware that a 3dB difference is effectively doubling the sound so small differences in numbers can have quite an effect. Custom-made ProGuard Attenuating Earplugs are the ultimate in comfort and will match every contour of your ear giving a perfect fit. Before you can obtain the finished item, it is necessary to have an impression made of your ears; this procedure must be carried out only by a qualified Audiologist appointed by ProGuard. This will usually take place at a clinic local to you or at our own facilities in Beckenham or Aylesbury.
Having your ear impressions taken is a painless and fairly quick procedure but should only be carried out by a qualified professional. Firstly your ears will be fully examined, this is done to make sure the ear canal is clear of cerumen (ear wax) and the inner ear looks healthy. A small foam block is placed in the ear canal to act as a seal to stop the silicon at a certain point on the journey into the ear canal. The impression can only now be taken by injecting a two-part silicon material into the ear with a special syringe. The silicon is left in the ear to cure for about five minutes and then removed: a very simple procedure. Once the impression has been taken and the audiologist is satisfied that the impression will produce a high quality custom fit, they will then be sent and processed in our laboratory where the final product will be manufactured. It is essential that qualified technician carries out this procedure; it is important that the ear is examined thoroughly to establish that it is healthy and that there is not a build up of cerumen (ear wax). Impressions cannot be taken from an infected ear as the process may aggravate the infection and the impression is unlikely to be accurate. If you have a perforated ear drum or have had ear surgery it is essential that you consult the Audiologist before you have any ear impressions taken. If there is any doubt about the ear itself not being healthy then we are obliged not to carry on with the procedure and refer you to a Doctor.
