This is an exquisite pair of antique French chateau tassels that date from the late 1800s. They are becoming increasingly difficult to find now - and so I was delighted to find 2 matching pairs in such wonderfully-muted colours of soft rose pink and pale green. ( Please see my other auctions for the second pair).

The French were famous in the 19th century for the production of top quality, intricate and decadent tassels and these are no exception.

Made of silk each tassel end measures 13" long (33cms) from the adjusting bobbin to the frothy ends. The wooden adjusting bobbin is silk covered with intricate overlay and applique in pale green. The tassel top is overlaid with lattice threads and the twisted cords below are overlaid in a macrame weave that finishes with tiny tassel ends.

The overall lenth of each piece from the top of the two twisted tie cords to the tassel ends is 29" (74cms) , making them perfect to hold back large, full billowing drapes.

They are in superb strong condition with just a little wear to the macrame overlay which certainly does not detract.
