Why pay the outrageous price from the Porsche dealership for a replacement window? Why pay for a whole window when only the plastic is bad?
Early Porsche 996's had a zip-in window that is zipped and then glued in. I'm selling the exact same thing, but it is not from Porsche. You can do the repair yourself. It is a 1-2 hour job that is best handled with two people.
The plastic that I use is higher quality and longer lasting than OEM Porsche plastic. The OEM plastic can be scratched with your fingernail. This plastic won't easily be scratched with your fingernail. I use a lightly tinted window. |

Fitting Instructions...
This repair will require 2 people (One person working from the inside, and one person working on the outside). Expect to spend at least an hour.
Repair should be done at temperatures at or above 68 Degrees F. Take off all jewelry (watches, rings).
Roll down all the side windows.
Lift Convertible top up about 6 Inches.
Starting in the Middle of the window on the outside, lift the piping with a butter knife and pull the fabric out of the profile, being careful not to damage the profile or your top.
Remove the rectangular shaped retaining clips (on the inside and outside of the window) by prying with a screwdriver.
Using a butter knife, or screwdriver unzip the zipper by prying between the 2 zipper ends. (you can also use an oversized zipper slider to unzip the window.) Once the zipper has been opened, it seperates easily, even without any tool.
Gently press the old window from the outside pushing in to remove the window.
Install the new window from the inside.
Using the provided zipper slider, zip in the new window. The factory install guide allows only 1 tooth offset to the right or left. I find it easier to start on the inside of the two zipper directions, so you are ending on the outside, but you can start the zipper slider in either direction. Most feedback I receive indicates that this is the only way to install the window.
Put the top back up all the way, but do not lock it.
Using a needle and thread, sew both ends of the zipper closed.
Apply the contact cement to the part of the window that will seal with the top and let it dry for 5 minutes. The glue is exremely easy to clean up when it's in it's drying process. If the glue to too wet, then you might make a mess. If the glue it too sticky, it will make it more difficult to do the next step.
Lift the edge piping of the window and insert the top material into the window.
Fitting Instructions are Included in the Self Fit Kit.
