Quite rare 924 Auto.
Runs well but a grand dame a little past her prime and possibly a candidate for someone with mechanical expertise to carry out a modest refurb.
This is a Y plate 1983 model in black with an indicated mileage of over 140,000 miles – but the odometer packed up a few years ago. I have noted journeys undertaken since then so the actual mileage would be approx 6,300 miles more than that indicated.
Being an auto she is a doddle to drive especially in traffic, and long journeys are relaxing too. She doesn’t hold first for long but you can select “2” for more sporty interludes – but 99% of the time just select “D” and leave it there.
I have recently had the throttle cable replaced (a nightmare as it goes from the throttle pedal right back to the diff) and due to correct adjustment, for the first time in years I have been able to use kickdown which can be quite exciting in the wrong place.
The alternator has also been refurbished so electrically she is quite robust.
Having said that, 924's can suffer with the ageing electrics and this example is no exception. Cold starts are first time every time, but sometimes a warm or hot start can be a long drawn out affair. This is often due to the petrol pump relay and/or its associated fuse but always starts eventually. I used her for parcel deliveries a year ago and she never let me down – but if you are making a quick getaway before a traffic warden reaches your windscreen she might throw a wobbler. You know how it is.
The drivers seat and rear seatback is poor with some foam showing through the worn fabric but this can be a common feature for 924s as are the cracks on top of the dashboard.
The electrics are sited in the passenger footwell and above that is the battery compartment – and these can leak. Thus I have reinforced the battery tray with multiple layers of fibre-glass and resin to good effect but as a precaution always try and park facing downhill so rain water drains forward out of the battery bay and not all over the fuse box and relay board.
The offside front wheel bearing might need attention afore too long and there are various rattles and mechanical noises from the drive train which need not alarm a mechanically adept owner.
The cabin fan has stopped fanning but the heater works very well, as do the elec windows and mirrors.
The sun roof lifts right off and the drain holes in the sunroof aperture have been rodded right through to the engine bay, so no leaks have been noted this past winter.
The photo shows some rust under the passenger side door and the rest of the bodywork reflects the age of the vehicle.
The Kenwood radio/cass works but unfortunately the electric retracting aerial doesn’t – a victim of carwash amnesia syndrome. The offside roof guttering strip parted company on that occasion too.
The rear seat folds forward to create a surprisingly roomy load space .
House purchase forces this sale and lack of time due to changed personal circumstances has made continuing ownership impractical.
Taxed and tested to end of August 2008 so can be driven away.
I only accept payment by paypal or cash upon collection by the winning bidder. UK bidders only please, due to collection of the car. The car is being sold exactly as seen in the pictures, together with a fair amount of service history (back to mid 1990’s.)
Serious buyers are strongly advised to inspect first as to bid is to buy and no haggling. We all know the rules.
More pics can be taken if required.
Thank you for looking.
