India, Police (Special Duty) Medal, Nagaland clasp

‘Police Katin Seva Padak’ (Police Special Duty Medal) in Hindi characters; unattributed as issued; slight age marks; on replaced correct ribbon with original Nagaland clasp. The medal was instituted on 23 February 1962 and awarded for service in difficult conditions due to extreme climate and terrain. Gangotri is in northern India on the borders of China and Nepal and is the source of the River Ganges. Nagaland is one of the smallest Indian states and is situated in the far northeast of India on the border with Myanmar (Burma). Nationalist agitation and insurgency by the Naga people lasted from the 1950s until 1997. A good example.
