What are benefits of Multi-Exposure?

A scanner rapidly reaches its limits with a SINGLE scan of negative film. The objective of Multi-Exposure is to enhance the Dynamic Range which adds detail in highlights negatives and reduces 'noise' of scans from film material. Scanning interior images and capturing subtle nuances in the highlights and shadows is now possible with Plustek OpticFilm 7300.

How does Multi-Exposure work?

Multi-Exposure works best with film material (negatives). Film material, whether black & white or negative color film or slides, provides a very high dynamic range, because film manufacturers added more layers of different sensitivity. A well exposed and developed negative can hold up to 12 fstops (contrast ratio: 4000:1). Multi-Exposure for negative films means that the Dynamic Range can increase from 3.3 up to 3.5 with OpticFilm. This is a big improvement (eg. a dynamic range of 3.0 scan gives a contrast ratio of 1000:1; a dynamic range of 4.0 gives a contrast ratio of 10,000:1 obtainable by drum scanners.). A regular positive film (slide film) holds a contrast range of up to 8 f-stops (256: 1 contrast ratio) so in theory slide film should not be improved by Multi-exposure. In practise small improvements of dynamic range can be achieve improved results with reflective (slides) scans (see below) - However the the most significant improvements are with negatives.

Multi Sampling

To minimize noise, the Plustek multiple sampling function makes 4 scans during scan time. Since the noise patterns changes each and every scan, the image is averaged together and noise is canceled out if inconsistencies are present. Illuminated Slide Viewer

Located on top of the scanner, the illuminated slide viewer provides the user with an excellent way to examine the slide before scanning.

For negatives, simply hold the film holder above the Illuminate viewer to preview the frame to be scanned.

Not only suitable for examining slides before scanning, the illuminated viewer can be the perfect helper for further digital file retouching.

SilverFast for professionals

Advanced users will be delighted with the bundled world-class image editing software - SilverFast SEPlus 6.5 ME.

It comes with SRD (Smart Removal of Defects) and many other advanced features.

Carrying bag

This padded carrying bag is specially designed for the film scanner.

Its main compartment accommodates the scanner, film holders, power adaptor and USB cord.

The case comes with an easy-to-grip handle for hand carry, and features Velcro taped pocket to house film holders.

Two film holders are provided.
One is for mounted slides, holding up to four mounted slides. The other is for filmstrips, holding a piece of filmstrip, up to 6 frames.

Using the film holder, the media are well protected. There will be no physical contact with the media during the scanning process.

Accessory : film holders

Extra film holders are available. The package comes with a box which containing a pair of film holders (filmstrip and mounted slide holder).
