| PINK FLOYD - 'THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON'
UK 1973 1st PRESSING LP
|
This 100% complete 1973 1st pressing is on the EMI Harvest label with the 'solid blue' triangle on both labels: SHVL 804
This very first pressing is
special not only because of its 'warmer' sound but when it is compared to later pressings, it plays at a slightly slower speed. If you play along in-tune to 'Money' on piano or guitar, and then do the same with a later pressing, you will find the later pressing plays sightly faster.
The disc is housed in an original 1st pressing matt 'Garrod & Lofthouse' printed 'dark blue' gatefold cover with only one open end & the original sticker still attached to the front panel.
Also present are both original white bordered posters & both stickers with printed/diagonal lined crack-backs.
Complete with its matt-black, poly-lined inner-sleeve with 'Patent Nos.' & 'Made in Great Britain' printed in white along the lower edge.
Matrix numbers: SHVL 804 A-2 & SHVL 804 B-2
Stamper numbers: 5/GGG & 1/GDH
Disc weight: 137g
CONDITION
Disc
Labels: VERY GOOD
As you can see, there is a fair amount of wear to the centre holes (especially on side 2), but no writing or other major blemishes.
Visual: VERY GOOD -
Both playing surfaces are clean but display some noticeable surface marks consistent with frequent handling & play. The only major fault is a 5mm scratch on track 2 of side 2 which is feelable beneath my fingertips. The disc still retains a sparkling rainbow shine under my powerful halogen desk lamp but no other major faults are visible.
Play: VERY GOOD -
This copy has clearly been well-loved and well-played. However, the sound is overall excellent with no groove/play wear to any track. It's only major fault on my system was a single jump on 'Us And Them'. However, this fault may not occur on all systems. Apart from that the only other audible blemishes are a few light ticks on the side 1 fade-in and on the aformentioned to 'Us And Them', it is still an enjoyble listen
Cover VERY GOOD
A very strong example from heavy card stock with a fair amount of handling & storagewear, but no major faults. Both panels have some rubbing, light scratches and small indentations with the inevitable light disc impression on the rear. There is some bruising to the corners and light wear to the opening edge, but no tears to any. Inside has some light rubbing but no writing or missing paper. All seams are unstress and unsplit and the unworded spine is straight & clean.
