Pinctada maxima A massive specimen, measuring 9 1/2" diagonally, heavy and solid. Also known as the 'golden lip pearl oyster', because of its beautiful golden brown exterior. This is formed by wavy, eadiating lines of golden-brown mother of pearl, much sought after by the Asian jewellers. The interior is purely, pearly silver. If put against the light one can admire and appreciate the beauty of this specimen, while identifying the multi-colours, such as turquoise, soft pink etc. This is similar to P. margairifera (Linne), 1758, but it is much bigger. One of a kind. All other in stock are smaller. Weights in at approx. 1/2 a Kilo. |
