Synopsis
When Pier Paolo Pasolini first moved to Rome in 1950, he began writing short studies of the city and its inhabitants, many of them young urchins whose fatalistic poverty drove them to stunted lives as street hustlers. Many of these vignettes are included in this collection, as well as concise, sometimes humorous pieces Pasolini wrote for magazines and newspapers on such subjects as soccer, slang, and politics. Seven brief sketches on women--among them the actress Anna Magnani, who appeared in Pasolini's movies--are also included, under the title "Women of Rome."
