Description: An exquisite coastal scene, watercolour on artist's paper, signed "Philip Shepherd", and dated 1977 and framed - approx 23 X 30 inches (58.42 X 76.2cm). This is an exquisite English School watercolour dating from the late 20th Century period. The coastal scene depicts a wonderful view of the sun setting on a seaside town. Titled "End of a Perfect Day" this stunning work of art is delicately and finely detailed. The sweeping sands to the foreground are captured in the shade, beyond which the setting sun casts light across the beach, late in the afternoon, where figural groups of families relax on a days outing to the seaside, children playing football, groups gathered around windbreaks, sandcastles, buckets and spades and figural groups all beautifully detailed in this quintessential British holiday gathering. A group of donkeys stand quietly after a days hard work giving children the pleasure of rides across the beach. A view, possibly of Blackpool, depicts the structure of the pier stretching out onto the water's edge, the town in the background nestling beneath the woodland hills. Above the setting sun gives a golden glow to the clouded blue sky. The painting, verso, bears an Exhibition sticker for "RWS Galleries - Signed by the artist Philip Shepherd ARWS £150.00" - Bought at the RWS Autumn Exhibition, 1977. A real treasure of a picture. The work is signed and dated lower left - "Philip Shepherd", 1977.

Framing: Contemporary plain moulded Pine. Finish: Gilt. The watercolour is mounted on board with tape and has a brown mount.
Condition: The painting is generally in good condition, retaining good rich colouring. There is some light foxing to the sky area otherwise good and original. The frame has an antiqued gilded finish.
