Introduction This is a brand new Psion spare part for the Psion Series 3a, the Psion Series 3 "Classic" and the Acorn Pocket Book Range (Psion manufactured these for Acorn).
This was an official spare part, which has been discontinued and is no longer supplied. All Psion Service Support for the Psion Series 3 Range has stopped.
This is the Battery Wire assembly which fits inside the main battery compartment at the back of the Psion Series 3a and Psion Series 3 "Classic" (Please see the Compatibility note below).
The Wire Assembly is made of blue insulated wire, with a Ferrite Bead, plug and metal battery connectors.
The Symptoms and the Reason for Replacing the Battery Wire Assembly This is a common fault on all Psion Series 3, Series 3a and Acorn Pocket Book machines.
If the Psion Series 3a or Series 3 displays the System message "Battery Low" constantly, and the main alkaline batteries are good, then it is more than likely the Battery Wire assembly has worn out. This is usually due to the hinge mechanism opening and closing the machine LCD lid.
Compatibility This battery wire assembly is compatible only with the following machines: Psion Series 3 "Classic", Psion Series 3a Range, the Acorn Pocket Book and Pocket Book II.
The Solution The battery compartment can be opened by removing two screws inside the main battery compartment (no seals are broken), and the old battery wire can be removed, discarded and replaced easily without damaging the rest of the machine. Once the main battery compartment is replaced, and the batteries re-fitted the machine will work correctly, as it did when it was new.
Repair Instructions supplied by email in a PDF File Easy to follow instructions (one page with diagrams) are provided with the new Battery Wire assembly - these instructions are in the Psion Series 3a Service Manual(ALSO included is the Psion Series 3c and 3mx Service Manual documentation), which will be provided by email in PDF format, I will also send the relevant one page of instructions on paper with the assembly.
