PRIVATE LINES - THE COLLECTION. SIGNED COPY!

Private Lines - The Collection is the latest offering from Ty Mawr Publications.

It comprises 96 pages covering 91 cartoons by "45726" which take a look at the UK Railway scene during the last 8 years or so. A commentary on each cartoon is provided by well known Modern Railways contributor Ian Walmsley with foreword by Railway commentator Roger Ford.

Ian Walmsley comments :

 The cartoonist 45726 is a man after my own heart.  Although now retired to a beautiful cottage overlooking the railway he retains a sharp view of the current railway scene and a view of old British Rail slightly tinted by the roses around his doorway.  Every month Today’s Railways UK,  previously Entrain, features “Private Lines” cartoons on what has wound him up that month, so it gives an amusing viewpoint to review the last 8 years. 

He tells me he remembers the last Jubilee Class loco he saw was 45726 so he chose it as a pseudonym.  It is just a coincidence it was named “Vindictive”.  Without giving too much away, 45726 was in the procurement part of BR and still does a bit of re-tread legal work for the odd bid team. 

Unfortunately this has rendered him totally unable to write anything which can be understood by anyone other than lawyers, which is why he got in touch with me.  “Without prejudice and ex gratia peradventure el scriptus illustratum?” he said. “For the avoidance of doubt, going forward…” I quickly understood the need and offered to help out. 

This volume is a collection of the cartoons along with my recollections of the events at the time.  They often say “you couldn’t make it up”, but today’s railways in the UK are such that you don’t need to!
