I took one look at this little masterpiece and fell in love! This is another of the personal collection of quilts and other items from the estate of an avid collector and owner of an antique store. The pattern and use of color is very striking. The tiny hexes used to make up the pattern and background are so tiny; not even 1" in diameter. The peach background sets off those blues and greens as well as the lavenders and pinks. Just yummy! I attempted to count the hexes and I think I came pretty close when I counted 4,850+ pieces, all hand stitched together in this somewhat unusual pattern. Rather than making "flowers", diamond shapes were created. All this is hand quilted. The back of this quilt is old muslin, and the "artist", who created it, embroidered on one corner, "May 1938". So, this is 70 years old. This measures about 56x67" Not without problems, but considering how many diamonds are included (123, plus about 30 halves around the edges) it seems it would not take so very much to repair this. I found that 19 of the diamonds are broken, either needing 1 piece or on one other outer rows as many as 7 pieces. One place has a 1 1/4" hole on the top all the way through to about 3/4" on the bottom. That is the worst place. There is also fraying around the edges. I have attemped to list every flaw honestly and must also state that there are 3 places that are dirty/stained. This is all on the back or the quilt, but this isn't soiled and doesn't have a bad odor. It is quite clean on the whole. ***I will offer insurance on this item. Please wait for an invoice!
