WOVEN TEXTILE MUMMY WRAPPING FROM PERU |
Unusual artefact from the Nazca region of Peru, date uncertain but certainly pre-Columbian, probably 800 to 1200 AD. The size is 18 x 8 cm at the widest point. Red, orange and white feathers have been attached to the front by means of stitching, originally in neat rows, and presumably in patches of colour. Most of the feathers are now missing, with some quill ends remaining. Some evidence of shrinkage at the narrow end
