Crabs had a mystical meaning for the Moche people, the constant reference to the Crab-Man deity or its presence on all kinds of objects are testimony of its ritual significance. Here is a symbol of that adoration in a burial offering. The crab has all legs and has its frontal arms up in fighting motion. The body has incisions on the side to accentuate its shape and decor. Stands on itself quite nicely.
