Know As : Pomegranate / Anaranda (Punica granatum)
Description: The leaves are glossy with hints of red , narrow oblong, 3–7 cm long and 2 cm broad. The flowers are bright red, 3 cm in diameter, with four to five petals . The fruit is between a lemon and a grapefruit in size, 5–12 cm in diameter with a rounded hexagonal shape, and has thick reddish skin The seeds and surrounding pulp, ranging in colour from white to deep red, are edible; indeed, the fruit of the pomegranate is a berry. Pomegranates are drought tolerant, and can be grown in dry areas. In wetter areas, they are prone to root decay from fungal diseases. They are tolerant of moderate frost, down to about −10°C (14°F).
Hardiness: Pomegrantates tend to drop their leaves in the winter months. Simply ensure the tree has plenty of light, ventilation and food and don't over water. They can be kept on a south facing wall sheltered garden or in a conservatory or greenhouse not below 5'C.It is hardy to frost tender.
Growing Environment: It is in flower from June to September. The plant prefers light (sandy), medium (loamy) and heavy (clay) soils and requires well-drained soil. The plant prefers acid, neutral and basic (alkaline) soils. It cannot grow in the shade. It requires dry or moist soil. Suitable for woodland garden; sunny edge; hedge; south wall To ensure the pomegranate fruits fully develop they require as much sunlight and ventilation as possible.Feed once a week with phostrogen feed to help encourage flowers.
Uses: Pomegranates are a versatile fruit and can be used as a garnish on sweet and savory dishes or pressed to extract the juice. *Care* The juice can stain your clothes so be sure to wear an apron or clothing that you don’t mind getting stained.
The fruits can be used to make wine , syrup, jams, pies, sorbets, salsas, salads etc or just enjoyed on their own fresh for the rich level of Vitamin C they contain (approx 40% of your daily requirement).

Native Range : The pomegranate is native from Iran to the Himalayas in northern India.
Legend : The ancient Egyptians were buried with pomegrantates in the hope of re-birth, while
Greek mythology Persephone, the daughter of Demeter, the goddess of agriculture, was offered
a seed of the fruit by Hades. Tempted by its jewel-like appearance, she took it but beacuse she
ate a few seeds before being rescued she had to spend several months every year in the underworld
with Hades.According to myth this is when the earth endures the winter months. These days, Greeks
traditionally break a pomegranate at weddings, as a symbol of fertility. In China, a sugared version
of the seed is eaten on the day to bless the newlyweds.
Seeds are sold as packs of 15 along with additional growing/propogation tips to give you a better start.
Note: Although these seeds are good quality and come with propogation tips the successful
germination of them and healthy growth into strong plants will be dependent on the environment you give them.
