Perfection, no flaws, defects, marks or otherwise indications of being handled or played. Any scuffs, hairline scratches or other marks disqualify discs from this category. I do use this grade very seldom, as even the act of inserting the disc or removing it from the paper sleeve may cause scuff marks on the vinyl. |
| NM (near mint - almost new |
The record is near-mint, there is no damage or visible surface marking. Under Bright Light you may see fine lines on the record, caused by rubbing on the paper sleeve. The Cover and inserts are undamaged. |
| Ex (excellent) |
The record may show some signs of having been played, possibly with light surface marks or fingerprints but there is no appreciable lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing. |
| VG+ (very good plus),VG (very good) |
The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable. |
| G (good) |
The record has been played so much that the sound quality has been affected noticeably, perhaps with some distortion and clicks due to scratches. Covers may have major seam splits, large marker writing, significant ring wear, damaged corners, tears, cuts or other flaws and damage. |
| F/P (fair/poor) |
The epithets completely characterise a plate condition. The only reason for storage is a rare edition. |
