Following the recent bout of fixed gear fever that has struck the nation, we at Pearsons
are proud to present our own single speed solution.  The Touché may be different
from it's competitors but it's development was a marked response to the many manufacturers'
failings without too far overriding their prices.  It’s key features are the aluminium
smooth weld frame with integrated carbon forks and full mudguard clearance.
The bike will take up to 28mm tyres and also features rack and bottle bosses.
The frame geometry has been carefully designed, employing relaxed angles, a
long wheelbase and a raised bottom bracket. For safety there is no toe overlap.
It is finished in either metallic blue or metallic charcoal with stainless steel rear
facing drop outs.

Track type wheels with polished brake surfaces are built with stainless steel
spokes on large flange sealed bearing hubs and shod with all-weather road tyres.
The FSA chain set is available in either 170 or 165 cranks and a 48 tooth ring. There
is an option for gear sizes, and double -fix or fix/free on the rear hub. We offer two options on the
handlebars; either dropped bars in a choice of widths with the very comfortable
Cane Creek aero levers or upturned moscow type bars with time trial brake levers.
Both are used in conjunction with polished alloy dual pivot brakes.

At extra cost upgrades include polished alloy track chain set, nickel plated chain,
carbon seat pin and Continental race tyres.
The cost of the standard bike is £599.99 without pedals.

We handbuild each Touche to specification starting from the frame up. The variations
available are such that each model is unique to the next. Each Touche is essentially a
custom built bike as opposed to an 'off the peg' single speed that many of our competitors
can only supply.

Customer feedback:

Dominic Van Spall "Good all round... should have been given 10/10!"

Peter Henderson (Fife Scotland): I have ridden it for around 100 miles and find that it far exceeds my expectations. I have ridden fixed wheel for around 40 years since the mid 60s so have some experience of them and this frame rates amongst the best for handling and comfort.

Rolf Lemont I am so pleased with my Touche I keep having to go down to my shed to look at it!  Thanks so much for building an acceptional fixed gear, it is so on the mark of what I was looking for in an all round single speed.

Carol Richards I wasn't entirely sure about the blue (typical girl) at first but now I have taken the bike into the sun it really glistens. This is my first foray into the world of fixed gear and I'm gradually getting used to the idea of spinning the pedals - I must say it is an art.... Thank you for the great service and speedy turnaround.

Ian Silvester ... after now having had some time to ride my new machine my initial thoughts have been well and truely confirmed.  A supremely comfortable, extremely well built & nice looking machine that is a pleasure to ride. What great value !!

Barry Wootten - Berkshire Tri Squad Just a quick note to say thanks for the great service regarding the purchase of my Touche last week. I've ridden it 4 times already and have enjoyed every mile. The ability to build the bike to spec on site was really appreciated and the results from doing this far better than a compeltely off the shelf solution. Special thanks to Guy for his building, advice and consultation during this process. I wish you every success with these bikes and will happily commend them to friends and club mates alike.  Keep up the good work.

Nigel:  Glouchester City CC Thanks for arranging to supply me with a Touche through the Halfords ' Cycle to work' scheme. I also really appreciate the patience of Guy in building it up to my specifications.  I am really pleased with the bike and it will make commuting to work a pleasure - as well as weekend riding.

Rupert Burman It has bought a smile to my face, despite the ungodly weather this week, and the difference from my slicked up mtb is, to say the least, extreme.  Having been slightly worried about the hills either end of my journey (Balham to Primrose Hill), I find it flies up, even from a standing start at the lights.

Tim Hutchen Its absolutely fantastic - I'm chuffed to bits - its so quick and smooth and I love the courier bars. Straight into Richmond Park at Kingston Gate and turned right up the hill - forgot I ever had a bike with gears!!! Thanks again for a great service.

Dave Reynolds I used it for the first time on Sunday, didn't do the club run but had a lone ride down to the Railway Carriage Cafe on the greenway between Stratford On Avon and Long Marston, about fifty miles. Very impressed with it and how well it went. I havent ridden fixed for about fourteen years so its going to take me a little while to get used to one again and make the most of it but well done lads for supplying a quality piece of kit.

Mark Laing I am delighted with my Touché... I did ‘pop in’ on my staff in London – made a snap decision to leave my car at office and cycled as far as Royston/A10.  Unfortunately, light was against me. I am now a ‘fully qualified exponent’ of fixed wheel cycling according to my wife who collected me in her car by Duxford/M11. She listened interestingly all the way to Norfolk(!!!)  Look forward to meeting again. Great service – great karma.

Matthew Overton, Ottawa, Canada Just wanted you to know how pleased I am with my Touché since purchasing it last December.  It has been a real pleasure to ride on short and longer rides; quick and responsive, it is a real treat.  I have since returned to Canada and have been extolling the fun of both a fixie, and my Pearson to everyone I have been riding with - it has become my regular ride.  My Touché is my first experience with a fixed gear and I am sorry that I waited so long to try.  My only regret now is that winter is coming, and I will have put her away until spring!

Neil McCover I've had my Touche for about 6 months now and covered about 3,000 miles on my daily commute.  Never had so much fun in a long time.  At age 52 this is my first fixed and I can thoroughly recommend the experience.  The build quality of the frame is superb as is the finish and the general spec of the components.  It's a real eyecatcher and barely a day goes by without another cyclist admiring it as I pass them (providing the gradient is not too steep in either direction).

It's certainly improved my cycling and I'm sure it helped me complete my first Ironman in Austria this year and qualify for the British Triathlon Team in the 2007 Age Group Championships in Hamburg and Vancouver in 2008. Thanks for a great bike and great service.

Dr Phil Stringer Just to say I collected the Touché on Saturday and managed a ride out yesterday -wonderful. It is all that I was led to believe by Cycling Plus, by Martin and Will in the shop, and by reading about the fixed gear experience. Why has it taken me so long?

Simon Paine About a month ago I collected one of your lovely Touches and I thought that I would let you know how I have got on with it. Firstly, I am thoroughly enjoying commuting on it (about 100 miles/week) - the frame really is very comfortable but yet provides plenty of stiffness to accelerate up inclines. The simplicity of a single-speed has taken no time at all to get used to and, in fact, now I cannot think what on earth I needed all those gears for.

David Ring Just thought I’d drop you a note about the Touché I picked up last week – I’ve dealt with a few of my daily commutes on it since then (c.30 miles round trip) and it’s going like a dream. I’m a fairly big guy but the frame is such a delight, so stiff and responsive, and I’ve been really pleasantly surprised how easy it is to keep speed up at the top end – it’s geared perfectly for me, at least, and spinning at a high cadence really seems to make sense to me for the first time in (brief!) cycling career. I also love not having to listen to c. 5lbs of crappy groupset banging around every time I go over a bump in the road!  In brief, I’m absolutely stoked with it – thanks for your help in fitting it and advising me on components/accessories.

Steve McCormack Having given my Touche its second test ride and sorted out my preferred gearing, you have created a greyhound. It’s an amazing bike. I just did about two-thirds of my normal commute into central London as a try-out and never once missed having a choice of gears. It’s a seriously comfortable ride and a real ‘looker’. Job well done.

Pete McGettigan Many thanks Alan et al for the great service, the cup of tea and the speedy build and dispatch last week. The packing was great – nothing bent or scratched. The bike arrived on Monday and has done 60 miles so far without any problems. I’m really pleased with it. Off up some bigger hills on Saturday I think - my club mates will want to make me suffer for ditching the gear box.

David McCraw After a month on the Touché I feel compelled to write to you again to say that it is without doubt the best bike I have ever had. I popped on a 20t cog and with that little bit more spin, it has become truly exceptional!  I’ve only come off once (discovering on the way down a hill that you can, in fact, go faster than your legs will spin – and that on the 18t!) but luckily found a comfy verge to land on.  The most uncanny thing is the total silence – it’s rather good for burning past roadies on the uphill!  I can honestly say that every day I now look forward to going to work… ;-)

Phil Malyon The sun came out and with a blustery wind my new Touche took me for a 40 minute test flight. Some mixed windy country roads, sea shore esplanade, main road with hills up and down. What a well mannered and delightful ride. It may cost 600 but it rides like 900. You fitted it out in terms of frame size and postion perfectly. Never have i got on a machine and got back from a first ride without having to tweak something. Thankyou for your attention to detail, great service and a great bike. I thought my  bespoke David Lloyd fixie (now in that bike park in the sky!)was good. The Touche far exceedes it. touche indeed. A fine ripost to the other pretenders on the market. Well done to you all.

Dominic Irvine Just back from solo, unsupported, 7 day ride from John O’Groats to Lands End on my Pearson Touche single speed. The bike behaved impeccably, and together we knocked off 903 miles, about 129 miles a day. From the Scottish Highlands to the challenges of Dartmoor, the bike just took it all. We climbed to 466metres, descended at 50mph, and one day spent 10 hours in the saddle. By my way of reckoning, that’s beyond what’s reasonable to expect from a bike.  It’s a great bike. Well done.

Jim McCarthy I collected my Touche the weekend before last and have been out on it every day since. It really is a joy to ride. The service was excellent  and many thanks for sorting out my other road bike there and then. Being able to get the bike from you on the Bike to Work Scheme has made it a real bargain.

Tom Berry No gears, who cares? Having a blast on the Touche. Thanks so much.

Tony Anderson  Just a quick thank you for building the Touche for me yesterday morning, picking up the tab for the parking and the coffee!  Thoroughly enjoyed the club run today on the Touche, shade under 50 miles at an average of 17.9 mph all the club guys were anxious to get back to watch the TdF. Was dropped a couple of times on the downhills despite managing just over 24mph on the 48*19 gear, just made spinning cross the gap that much more enjoyable. Found the ride extremely comfortable, the uphills were like a dream and the acceleration was superb.
Thanks again.

John Donohue  Hi all, I've been riding my touche for about 3 months now and it still brings a smile from ear to ear everytime I get on it. I've been using it for the daily commute, but can't resist a blast in the dark when our baby's gone to bed.  Fantastic bike I'd reccomend to everyone.

Charles Cromack  Just thought I would let you know that after 2 years and 7500 miles my touché still looks and performs like new. It is still running on the original continental tyres, only one puncture in 2 years, and is on its third chain. The bike is so comfortable that last year I rode the club 100mile reliability ride on 48 x 19 no trouble up or down hills and of course I had the satisfaction of pedaling all the way!  In a stable of some 11 bikes / trikes the touché is the overall favorite. Just to say that it replaced my 1962 Holdsworth Zephyr track / road bike which gave great service for twenty odd years and I can see the Touché giving equally good service. All in all, a great bike.

Graham Atkinson  I just wanted to say a big thank you for putting together such a fantastic bike. I am very pleased with the whole package from the great frame to the various upgrades. The frame manages to be both comfortable and very stiff and responsive, no doubt the carbon seat post and forks helps with the comfort. What you notice most is how quiet the bike is and how fast the miles go by with less effort than expected. Whether flying up hills in or out of the saddle or spinning furiously down hills the bike is a joy to ride. The upgraded wheels are excellent and the dynohub with B&M Lumotec IQ Cyo light is brilliant for riding country lanes in total darkness with complete confidence. My Touche looks great and has become my favourite bike for everything from fast training rides to nipping down to the shops. I can't think of a single thing I would change to make the bike perform any better.  Many thanks and kind regards.

John Maingay  Fantastic bike - I have never been able to accelerate on a bike this fast, including the condor roadbike I owned for years,  It's a very smooth, responsive ride and the lack of gears just isn't an issue so far, even on hills.  The riding position is really comfortable and easy, even in London traffic. All the rave reviews would appear to be true!   Thanks a lot!

Henri Desgrange, L'Équipe article of 1902:
"I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailleur? We are getting soft... as for me, give me a fixed gear!"

We would love to hear about your Pearson Touche experience or suggestions for the bike or webpage please contact us.
