This incredible spoon has been expertly silver plated onto brass giving it a lovely, heavy, feel.
This is one of the rarest Absinthe spoons you can find. Produced originally to mark the opening of the Eiffel Tower in 1889, this reproduction faithfully represents the original which can command a price in the thousands.
Presented in a velvet and silk lined box
Measuring 6 1/2 inches (17 cm), engraved on reverse of the handle with the makers mark. Box measures 7 x 3 inches.
Used in the ritual of Absinthe drinking, where the spoon was balanced across the rim of a glass, and sugar placed on the slotted bowl of the spoon. Iced water was allowed to drip onto the sugar, and into the glass containing a measure of Absinthe. When the drink turns an opalescent shade, it is ready to drink.
